Campaña para la reforma migratoria
Centro Campesino está trabajando con miembros de la Coalición Nacional por Dignidad y Residencia para impulsar nuevamente legislación en el Congreso designada a proteger trabajadores indocumentados del acoso y miedo de deportación y para presionar a nuestros representantes para la aprobación del Acta de Libertad. El Acta de Libertad proveerá estatus legal a estos trabajadores indocumentados que puedan probar pago de impuestos, continuidad en el empleo por 3 años en los EEUU, que no tienen un record criminal, y que no han recibido asistencia pública.
Los EEUU siempre han sido una nación de inmigrantes, un cielo para esos escapando la pobreza y violencia de sus países de origen. Refugiados que vienen a este país para trabajar duro y reconstruir sus vidas merecen la oportunidad de ganar su camino a residencia permanente. Centro Campesino cree que el Acta de Libertad nos dará una razonable y justa política de inmigración.
En 2002-03, Centro Campesino ha estado también activamente involucrado con esfuerzos sobre la legalización de trabajadores indocumentados en otros esfuerzos locales tambien. Estas actividades incluyen: dos viajes al Consulado en Chicago con 90 miembros; y negociando con el Consulado de México por más de catorce meses para un viaje por primera vez al campo rural de Minnesota para proveer identificación con foto para 1,500 residentes Mexicanos en el 2003. Centro Campesino coordinó con el Servicio de Hacienda para proveer Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITIN) para aproximadamente 560 trabajadores indocumentados en Austin, Faribault y Montgomery.

Centro Campesino will hold a demonstration in central park in Owatonna at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday may 1st. From there we will take a bus to St. Paul to join the demonstration organized by The May 1 Coalition.
The May 1st Coalition invites you to march on May 1 for the rights of immigrants and all workers, to defend the dignity of all human beings, and to celebrate the strength of the people. We say enough to the raids and deportations, and we want legalization for all now!

Bus to Washington
For the third year, Centro Campesino organized a bus with over 30 members and allies to go and lobby our congressmen in Washington D.C. On April 27 we joined many other organizations on a national lobby day for fair immigration reform.
We conducted meetings with our eight representatives in Washington and our two senators. We urged them to support and promote a fair and just immigration reform; at the same time, we asked them not to support the REAL ID Act, which will affect all immigrants and average citizens as well.
