Workers On Strike Reach Agreement with Ronnel Management Services!!!
Dear Members and Allies,
On August 24, 2010, members of Centro Campesino went on strike against the Ronnel Management Services, housed within the Jenny O Turkey Store in Faribault, Minnesota. They were tired of the harassment and mistreatment by the manager and of the lack of a grievance process. Organizers of Centro Campesino, with the assistance of the workers on strike, immediately conducted an analysis of the situation.
The first action taken was to send a letter to the directors of Ronnel Management Services in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to create an opportunity to not only explain the bad working conditions of these workers that has been an on-going problem for many years, but to also insist that they agree to the demands of the workers. The next day, Wednesday August 25, representatives from Ronnel Management Services met with Centro Campesino and the workers and reached a formal agreement, signed by the representatives of the Ronnel Management Services and Centro Campesino, acting as representatives of the workers.
The agreement states that all workers that were fired and/or went on strike shall be reinstated, that the work place shall be free of harassment and that a grievance process would be observed for every offense, creating a mechanism. The directors of Ronnel Management Services went a step further and fired the manager that was mistreating and harassing the workers, the reason the workers went on strike. On behalf of the workers, Centro Campesino is happy with the result of this agreement where Ronnel Management Services acknowledged that they indeed had a human resources and managerial problem on their hands. They have also recognized that Latino workers are loyal and hardworking and were forced to go on strike because of the repeated mistreatment and harassment.
Centro Campesino would like to recognize and congratulate Ronnel Management Services for acknowledging that Latino workers are an essential part of their workforce and for recognizing Centro Campesino as representatives of their employees. This is a great example of a good relationship between a company and its employees.
Sincerely,
Victor Contreras Executive Director
